Stone Benchtops for Fremantle Cottages, Terraces & Apartments

Fremantle renovations come with character. Limestone cottages, workers' terraces in South Fremantle & compact apartment kitchens all need a benchtop that looks the part & stands up to everyday life. VITRUM Surfaces gives Fremantle homeowners the look of stone with stain, scratch & water resistance, & no crystalline silica.

VITRUM is made from approximately 86% glass & 14% resin & is classified as a glass product, so it is not affected by Australia's engineered stone ban. Polished surfaces need no sealing, & every benchtop is backed by a 10-year limited warranty.

A heritage look with modern performance

Many Fremantle homeowners want a benchtop that suits the age of the house: a warm travertine, a soft marble vein or a natural, earthy tone. VITRUM's Artisan Collection & Marmo range deliver those looks without the sealing & etching worries of natural stone, which matters in a kitchen that sees plenty of lemon, wine & coffee.

If your home is close to the coast, keep VITRUM inside. It is not recommended for outdoor use because prolonged UV exposure can fade the pigment over time. For the kitchen, bathroom, laundry or a feature wall inside your cottage, it is a durable, low-maintenance choice.

Crystalline silica-free benchtops for Fremantle

Since July 2024, engineered stone containing crystalline silica can no longer be made, supplied or installed in Australia. VITRUM was developed in response. It contains no crystalline silica, is classified as a glass product & is not part of the ban, so Fremantle homeowners, builders & stonemasons can specify it with confidence.

How to get a VITRUM benchtop in Fremantle

VITRUM Surfaces is supplied through stonemasons, cabinet makers, kitchen companies & builders, who fabricate & install the finished benchtop. Here is how it works:

  • Choose your colour - visit our Malaga showroom or order samples  online.
  • Ask your Fremantle kitchen company, cabinet maker, builder or stonemason to specify VITRUM on your quote.
  • Your fabricator orders the slabs, measures, cuts & installs your benchtop to your exact specifications.
  • Your benchtop is covered by VITRUM's 10-year limited warranty  against slab manufacturing defects, from the date of installation.

Things to know before you order

  • Slab thickness is 20mm. Ask your stonemason about thicker-looking edge options.
  • Joins are normally not needed in runs under 3.2 metres; longer runs will need a join.
  • Any drop-in or undermount sink can be used, including stainless steel, porcelain, cast iron & solid surface.
  • Gas cooktops need a 200mm gap from the burner to a VITRUM splashback (AS/NZS 5601); induction & electric need 50mm.
  • Use a trivet for hot pans & a chopping board when using knives.
  • VITRUM is for indoor use only. Prolonged UV exposure can fade the pigment, so it is not recommended outdoors.
  • Polished surfaces need no sealing. Clean with VITRUM Sanitize  & a microfibre cloth, or warm water & a mild detergent.

FAQ’S

  • Is VITRUM a good choice for a heritage cottage kitchen in Fremantle?

  • Can I get VITRUM samples delivered to Fremantle?

Yes. You can order samples through the VITRUM colour palette page, which is handy if you cannot get to our Malaga showroom during the week.

  • Can VITRUM be used for an outdoor kitchen or alfresco?

VITRUM is not recommended for outdoor use, as prolonged UV exposure can cause the pigment to fade over time. It is designed for interior benchtops, splashbacks, vanities, wall cladding & flooring.

  • Is VITRUM safe for food preparation?

Yes. VITRUM is a non-porous, hygienic surface that has been approved by NSF for use in food preparation areas such as kitchen benchtops.
