Book matching is the practice of pairing two surfaces so that adjoining panels mirror each other, matching the pattern, movement and veining found in the material - creating the impression of an opened book.

VITRUM offers book-matched slabs across a select range of our colours. When these slabs are laid end-to-end, the vein pattern continues seamlessly from one to the next, with no visible break. The result is a mirror-image effect, much like the wings of a butterfly reflecting one another - striking in both contemporary and traditional spaces.

Book matching is only available in select colours because it relies on strong veining and patterning to create the effect. The directionality, uniformity and dynamics of the veins give architects, decorators and project managers scope to create different combinations and it's remarkable how differently the same slabs can read depending on how they're laid out.

Large kitchen islands, shower walls and feature walls are ideal applications for book-matched surfaces. The effect can look like abstract art, with some viewers picking out patterns, shapes or even faces within it.
